UAE Minister of Artificial Intelligence, Omar Sultan Al Olama, has announced a goal to increase the number of AI companies in the country from 1,500 to 10,000 within the next five years. This initiative is part of the UAE’s broader strategy to become a global leader in AI by 2031, integrating AI technologies across key sectors such as healthcare, education, transportation, energy, and government services. The government is implementing frameworks to encourage AI-oriented organizations, including certification and ranking systems based on AI competence and UAE presence.
🤝 Strengthening UAE–US AI Collaboration
The United States has approved the export of up to 500,000 advanced AI GPUs annually to the UAE, marking a significant step in the UAE–US AI partnership. This agreement supports the UAE’s efforts to build data centers essential for artificial intelligence development. In return, the UAE has pledged to invest a similar amount in the U.S., fostering a bilateral commitment to AI innovation.
🏗️ Major AI Infrastructure Projects
The UAE is investing heavily in AI infrastructure, including the development of one of the world’s largest AI data center hubs outside the U.S. Companies like Cerebras Systems are expanding their operations in the UAE to support the growing AI sector and neighboring markets like India and Pakistan. These initiatives aim to provide the necessary computational power for training large AI models and fostering innovation in the region.
🎓 AI Education and Workforce Development
In a bid to integrate AI into education, the UAE has approved a nationwide rollout of AI education programs. Teachers are receiving specialist training in AI as part of the national curriculum, positioning UAE educators as leaders in AI adoption. Abu Dhabi has launched the “Abu Dhabi Government Digital Strategy 2025–2027,” aiming to position the emirate as a global leader in AI-driven government services. The strategy involves deploying AED 13 billion through 2025–2027 to foster innovation and technology adoption across various government entities. This move underscores the UAE’s commitment to integrating AI into public services to enhance efficiency and citizen experience.
