In New Delhi, banks all over India will have a number of holidays in August 2026 as a result of regional festivals, national holidays and local observances. Because the holiday schedule differs from state to state, customers are recommended to verify if their local bank branch is open before making an appointment to visit it.
Together with the holidays connected with festivals, the banks will also be closed on the second and fourth Saturdays as well as all Sundays, in accordance with the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday schedule. Although the branches will not be providing services on these days, digital banking services will keep operating as normal.
State-wise bank holidays in August 2026
On Tuesday, August 4, the banks in Tripura will be closed for Ker Puja.
August 8 (Saturday). Banks in Sikkim will be closed for Tendong Lho Rum Faat.
On Thursday, August 13, the banks in Manipur will be closed on Patriot’s Day.
On Saturday, August 15, banks in India will be closed to celebrate both Independence Day and the Parsi New Year.
On Wednesday, August 19th, the banks in Tripura will be closed to celebrate the birthday of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur.
On Tuesday, 25th August, the banks in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh will be closed for Milad-Un-Nabi/First Onam/Milad-i-Sherif (the Birthday of Prophet Muhammad).
August 26 (Wednesday): Banks in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Delhi, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand will stay closed for Id-E-Milad, Baravafat, Milad-un-Nabi (Birthday of Prophet Muhammad), or Thiruvonam.
August 28 (Friday), banks in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Himachal Pradesh will stay closed for Raksha Bandhan, Pang-Lhabsol, the Friday after Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi, Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi, and Ayyankali Jayanthi.
Digital banking services to remain available
On bank holidays customers will still be able to use internet banking, the mobile banking apps, ATMs and UPI services to carry out normal transactions such as transferring funds, paying bills, withdrawing cash and managing their accounts.
Services based on branches—such as cheque clearing, the issuance of demand drafts, the provision of account-related documents and large cash transactions—will not be available on these holidays, and customers are therefore urged to carry out such tasks in advance so as to avoid any last-minute inconvenience.
